2001 “Le Platypus” Vintage Sparkling Wine

750ml Bottle

AU$27 Per Bottle

Tasting Notes:

Made from Yarra Valley fruit, the 2001 “Le Platypus” is a vintage sparkling wine made in the French traditional method from a classic blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.

Our winemaker, Paul Evans has handcrafted the base wine then allowed for at least two years for it to sit on lees. After hand riddling this wine was recently disgorged to produce a yeasty bouquet and a honeydew melon character on the palate. The fine beads of “Le Platypus” are complimented by a crisp dry finish.

2003 Yarra Valley Chardonnay

750ml Bottle

AU$20 Per Bottle

Tasting Notes:

The 2003 Yarra Valley Chardonnay was hand picked from our Healesville vineyards where yields were ideal, at around two ton to the acre. The early, cool, dry finish to the season for this variety has contributed to desirable sugar and acid levels.

Winemaker, Paul Evans, has handcrafted this Chardonnay into a wine that is pale gold in colour and has a bouquet of mango and pear. The aroma also has a measure of toasty French oak along with mild buttery characters derived from partial malolactic fermentation. On the palate grapefruit and honeydew melon are evident together with balanced acid and mid-palate fullness.

The finish to our 2003 Chardonnay and crisp and lengthy. The individual components in this bottle come together to form a beautifully balanced dry white wine

2002 Mariafeld Pinot Noir

750ml Bottle

AU$ 25 Per Bottle

Tasting Notes:

The 2002 “Mariafeld’, which is a little known Pinot Noir clone, was picked at optimum ripeness thanks to a warm dry finish to the season in the Yarra Valley. Maturation for eleven months in new and old French barriques has contributed vanillin characters to a fruit driven wine. Complex flavours of both red and black cherries fill the palate and soft sweet tannins add to a lingering finish.
Our winemaker has met the challenge of this variety by creating a wine with fruit, acidity and tannin in balance with one another. The ‘Mariafeld’ is drinking well now and will benefit from short term cellaring.

Silver Medal winner 2003 Southern Victorian Wine Show.

2003 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

750ml Bottle

AU$25 Per Bottle

 Tasting Notes:

Our 2003 Pinot Noir was hand picked from our Kiah Yallambee vineyard in Healesville. With low yields and a cold, dry finish to the season we have achieved sugar and acid levels at which the fruit has been able to truly express itself.

Winemaker, Paul Evans, has handcrafted this Pinot into a wine that is deep crimson in colour, and has a nose of lifted spice, plums and redcurrants, along with subtle, soft oak characters. The palate is full-flavoured with an earthiness that has resulted in a richer style wine with natural grape tannins. The finish is soft with lingering varietal flavours.

2003 Yarra Valley Cabernets

750ml Bottle

AU$23 Per Bottle

 Tasting Notes:

The Cabernets from 2003 consists of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, all in equal proportions.  The grapes were sourced from Log Creek Vineyard in the Yarra Valley where yields were low. The warm to hot summer has resulted in blackberry/blackcurrant aromas and flavours with good palate length and a desirable acid/tannin balance.

With judicious use of both new and seasonal French barriques our winemaker Paul Evans, has created a cool climate Cabernets blend which will benefit from medium to long term cellaring.

2003 Yarra Valley Shiraz

750ml Bottle

AU$32 Per Bottle

Tasting Notes:

Our 2003 Shiraz is a product of a warm to hot summer in the Yarra Valley. The season has given us a wine rich in both colour and flavour. The aroma from this wine reveals plum and vanillin characters which flow through to the palate where they are complimented by an element of white pepper and a chocolate texture. The finish has good length with some fine tannins derived from new and seasoned American oak.

Natural acidity at ideal levels and the intensity of the fruit flavours give this wine long term cellaring potential.
