THE EDGE OF LOVE   ma  UK 110 minutes Starring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller                     Tuesday August 11th  7.30pm

The story of poet Dylan Thomas told through the lives of two women, his wife Caitlin and his purported lover Vera.  The Blitz is on in London  and Vera attracts the attention of a soldier, Captain William Killick, adding a fourth element to an already volatile mix. The story explores the Bohemian world of war-torn London and the complexities of the two young couples whose lives become dangerously intertwined.

Another superb film from the region that gave us "The Weeping Camel".  Set in the steppes of southern Kazakhstan where the wind blows, the dust swirls, camels stampede and young Asa is desperate to establish himself  in the sort of life that his beautiful sister Samal and her herdsman husband Ondas has.  Asa wants to marry Tulpan, the daughter of a neighbouring family, but she won't have anything to do with him; and unfortunately he is not cut out for a life on the Steppes.

THE READER  m UK  124 minutes  Starring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet              Saturday August 22nd and Tuesday 25th at  7.30pm

Set in post WW II Germany, Michael and Hanna are quickly drawn into into a passionate but secretive affair until Hanna mysteriously disappears one day.  Eight years later Michael is stunned to find Hanna back in his life.  A story about truth and reconciliation in a difficult era.

HOW ABOUT YOU  ma  UK  100 minutes Starring Vanessa Redgrave              Saturday August 29th and Tuesday September 1st   7.30pm

Ellie is a carefree young woman who is left in charge of a residential home and four grumpy old residents known as the 'hardcore'.   They are a retired screen beauty; two spinster sisters and as retired High Court judge. The film wonderfully tells of the hilarious antics of these uncivilised seniors and the gradual solidarity that develops between them and Ellie.

RACHEL GETTING MARRIED  m USA 113 minutes Starring Anne Hathaway                             Tuesday September 8th at  7.30pm

When Kim (Anne Hathaway) returns to the family home for her sister's wedding  she brings with her a long history of personal crisis, family conflict and tragedy.  The film paints a heartfelt, perceptive and sometimes hilarious family portrait.

MARY AND MAX  m  AUS  80 minutes   Directed by Oscar winner Adam Elliott        Saturday September 12th and Tuesday 15th at  7.30pm

Elliott presents a feature-length claymation film that tells a story of two pen-friends spanning twenty years and two continents.  Mary and Max  is innocent but not naive, as it takes us on a journey that explore friendship; autism; taxidermy; psychiatry; alcoholism; obesity; kleptomania; agoraphobia; religion and much, much more.

Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year old son of the Commandant at a concentration camp.  Bruno's forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the fence has startling and unexpected consequences.  A timeless story of innocence lost and humanity found.

For three years after being forced to resign the Presidency, Nixon remained silent.  But in the summer of 1977, the former President agreed to give one all-inclusive interview with David Frost, to confront probing questions of his time on office and the Watergate scandal.  A stunning display of unvarnished truth.

DISGRACE  m  S.A.  118 minutes  Starring John Malkovich                                                                    Tuesday  October 6th at   7.30pm

Professor David Lurie's life falls apart after he has  an impulsive affair with one of his students. Forced to resign his University position, he flees to his daughter's farm in an isolated part of rural South Africa, where it's white residents now face the realities of a new type of discrimination. An utterly riveting and challenging film.
